The question
Did an independent party get the same result?
Proof of Reproduction is the claim that a proof was independently reproduced: a Check Assay by a party set independent of the original, against the same control with fresh canaries, agreed within limits declared in advance. It names, as a claim a reader can ask for, the Reproof Status defined in PP-SPEC-081 (Reproof: The Umpire Assay Protocol). This specification adds no new reproof procedure; it defines how the claim is determined and recorded.
Why it matters
One assay is a claim. Two independent assays are a fact. A buyer, insurer or regulator relying on a proof of efficacy also needs this question answered, and answered by evidence the measured party did not produce.
What it is not
- It is not record verification. Recomputing a root and checking signatures proves the record is intact, not that it would be reproduced.
- It is not a repeat run by the same parties. That measures consistency, not independence.
- It does not redefine PP-SPEC-081. Where they differ, PP-SPEC-081 controls.
The three answers
- proven: PP-SPEC-081 computes a status of Reproven for the original, within the scope the claim states.
- refuted: A PP-SPEC-081 Umpire ruling upholds the Check Assay against the original.
- insufficient: No Check Assay has concluded, every comparison is Insufficient, or the divergence is unresolved.
